The biggest mistake people make when shopping for a commercial pool cleaner is assuming the word commercial automatically means more power, better cleaning, and more features.
It does not.
Some Dolphin Wave commercial pool cleaners give you a longer cable and the ability to clean a larger pool, but they actually leave out features found on Dolphin's residential ProLine robots that you will want. Depending on the model, you may lose the Weekly Timer, smartphone app, NanoFilters, multiple filter options, or even a year of warranty coverage.
That is why, for most of the commercial pools people ask me about—apartment complexes, hotels, HOAs, gyms, schools, and smaller community pools—my first recommendations are usually the Dolphin Sigma and Dolphin Premier.
Both are rated for pools up to 50 feet. Both clean the floor, walls, and waterline. Both use commercial-grade ProLine motor systems, filter approximately 4,500 gallons per hour, include a Weekly Timer, and carry three-year warranties. In our own same-pool manometer testing, the Premier measured 2.2 PSI while the Sigma measured 2.0 PSI. These are not weak residential pool robots with a fancy name.
One business-use caveat: those are the listed U.S. warranties. Before putting a residential-branded ProLine robot into commercial service, confirm in writing that the seller will honor the warranty for your facility and usage pattern.
The Wave lineup begins to make sense when the pool is longer than 50 feet, unusually shallow, or genuinely massive. Pool size—not the commercial label—is the most important factor in this entire guide.
Best Commercial Pool Cleaners at a Glance
Quick Verdict
- Best Overall Commercial Pool Cleaner: Dolphin Sigma
- Best Value: Dolphin Premier
- Best Budget Dedicated Commercial Model: Dolphin Wave 60
- Best for Pools Over 50 to 65 Feet: Dolphin Wave 80
- Best Newcomer and Connected 65-Foot Pick: Dolphin Wave 90i
- Best for Pools Up to 88 Feet: Dolphin Wave 100
- Best for Pools Up to 138 Feet: Dolphin Wave 120
- Best for Shallow Pools and Fountains: Dolphin W20
- Best Heavy-Duty Floor Cleaner: Dolphin Wave 140
The simplest way to narrow it down: For 50 feet or less, buy the Premier or Sigma. From 51 to 65 feet, buy the Wave 80—or consider the Wave 90i if app control matters more than waterline cleaning. Choose the Wave 100 from 66 to 88 feet and the Wave 120 from 89 to 138 feet. Choose the Wave 140 when a facility up to 127 feet specifically needs heavy-duty, floor-only cleaning. For fountains, reflection pools, and water as shallow as eight inches, buy the W20.
Measure the longest dimension of the pool, not its perimeter. I also recommend leaving yourself some margin instead of buying a robot rated for the exact maximum length of the pool.

Why Are There So Many Dolphins on This List?
I am only featuring Dolphin models on purpose.
Dolphin currently offers the most complete purpose-built commercial robotic pool cleaner lineup in the United States, ranging from a robot that can operate in eight inches of water to machines designed for facilities up to 138 feet long. I would rather show you the commercial pool vacuums I would actually buy than add weaker products simply to put more brand names on the list.
If you are shopping for a smaller residential pool instead, start with my broader guides to the best robotic pool cleaners, best Dolphin pool cleaners, or best pool robots for large pools.
What Is the Difference Between Commercial and Residential Pool Cleaners?
Commercial and residential pool robots are not separated by one simple feature. You need to look at the motors, pool-size rating, cable, controls, filtration, warranty, and how the machine will actually be used by your staff.
Motors
The motors are important, but the word commercial does not guarantee more suction.
The Dolphin Premier and Sigma both use commercial-grade DC motor systems. The Premier uses dual commercial motors, while the Sigma uses three onboard commercial-grade motors. Both are rated at approximately 4,500 gallons per hour.
That is also the listed filtration rate of the Wave 60, Wave 80, Wave 90i, and Wave 100. You are not automatically getting more water flow by moving from a Premier or Sigma into one of those Wave models. The Wave 120 is where the rated flow increases substantially, reaching 9,000 gallons per hour.
For the smaller Wave models, the biggest upgrade is usually reach, not raw cleaning power.
Pool Length and Cable Length
This is where commercial pool cleaners really separate themselves.
The Premier and Sigma are designed for pools up to 50 feet. The Wave 80 and Wave 90i reach 65 feet. The Wave 100 reaches 88 feet, while the Wave 120 reaches 138 feet.
A longer cable is not just a convenience. The robot needs enough slack to travel across the floor, climb walls, navigate the deep end, and turn without being pulled back by the cord.
Still, shop by the published maximum pool length, not the raw cable length. A robot with an 80-foot cable is not automatically rated for an 80-foot pool.
Features and Automation
Commercial pool robots often have fewer convenience features because the manufacturer assumes an employee will place the robot in the water, start it manually, remove it after the cycle, and clean the filters.
That may work at a busy aquatic center with dedicated maintenance staff. It is much less convenient at a smaller hotel, apartment complex, HOA, gym, or school where one person may be responsible for several different maintenance jobs.
That is why I place so much value on a Weekly Timer.
With the Premier or Sigma, the robot can be scheduled to run automatically instead of requiring someone to press the power button every time. The Premier provides simple onboard scheduling, while the Sigma adds scheduling and control through the MyDolphin Plus app. The connected Wave 90i also has app control and a Weekly Timer, but most of the other Wave models do not.
You still need to empty the filters and remove the cleaner before the pool opens, but automated scheduling makes missed cleaning cycles much less likely. Read my guide to how often to run a pool robot for help building the right cleaning routine.
Filtration
Commercial pools collect everything: fine dust, hair, leaves, insects, sunscreen residue, and the debris carried in by heavy swimmer traffic.
The Premier has the most adaptable filtration system in this guide. Its Multi-Media system supports NanoFilters, standard cartridges, an oversized leaf bag, and optional disposable debris bags.
The Sigma uses a large top-loading basket with standard and ultra-fine filter options. The Wave 60 and Wave 80 also offer top-loading fine and ultra-fine filtration. The Wave 100 and Wave 120 move to high-capacity filter bags, which hold plenty of debris but are not as convenient to rinse as a top-loading basket.
Warranty
Do not assume a dedicated commercial model has a longer warranty.
The Premier and Sigma carry three-year warranties. The Wave 60, Wave 80, Wave 90i, Wave 100, and Wave 120 are listed with two-year warranties.
There are exceptions. The shallow-water W20 and heavy-duty Wave 140 have three-year warranties. But within the models most apartment, hotel, and HOA pool operators are comparing, the Premier and Sigma often provide the longer listed coverage.
Listed warranty length is not the same as guaranteed eligibility for every business use. If you are buying the residential-branded Premier or Sigma for a commercial property, ask the authorized seller to confirm commercial-use coverage before purchase.
Corded Versus Cordless
For a commercial pool, I would choose corded every time.
You do not want battery degradation, charging downtime, or a cleaner that stops halfway through a large pool because the battery is depleted. A commercial robotic pool cleaner should have continuous power and enough runtime to finish the entire job.
Every robot in this guide is corded, and that is a good thing. My corded versus cordless pool cleaner guide explains the performance and ownership differences in more detail.
Dolphin Sigma – Best Overall Commercial Pool Cleaner
The Dolphin Sigma is my best overall pick for commercial pools up to 50 feet.
It has three commercial-grade motors, 4,500 GPH filtration, top-loading filters, a Weekly Timer, MyDolphin Plus app control, gyroscopic navigation, and full floor, wall, and waterline coverage. It also carries a three-year warranty.
What makes the Sigma work so well in smaller commercial pools is that it combines commercial-grade performance with features normally missing from the Wave lineup. Your staff can schedule cleaning cycles from the app, manually control the robot when needed, and remove the top-loading filter system without turning the entire cleaner over.
The gyroscope also helps the Sigma maintain its position as it climbs and cleans the waterline. This matters in commercial pools, where oils and residue can quickly accumulate around the tile line.
Pros
- Triple commercial-grade motor system
- Cleans the floor, walls, and waterline
- MyDolphin Plus smartphone app
- Programmable Weekly Timer
- Top-loading standard and ultra-fine filters
- Three-year warranty
- Excellent option for hotels, apartments, gyms, and HOA pools
Cons
- Limited to pools up to 50 feet
- Does not have the Premier's oversized leaf bag
- More expensive than simpler robots
- App features may be unnecessary for facilities with dedicated pool staff
Who should buy it? Choose the Sigma if your pool is 50 feet or shorter and you want the best combination of cleaning power, top-loading filtration, scheduling, app control, and warranty coverage.

Dolphin Premier – Best Value Commercial-Grade Pool Cleaner
The Dolphin Premier is my best value pick and may be the better choice than the Sigma if your pool collects a lot of leaves or larger debris.
The Premier uses dual commercial-grade motors, filters approximately 4,500 gallons per hour, cleans the floor, walls, and waterline, and includes a Weekly Timer and three-year warranty. Its biggest advantage is the Multi-Media filtration system. You can switch between standard cartridges, NanoFilters, an oversized leaf bag, and optional disposable debris bags.
In our manometer testing, the Premier produced the strongest reading of the robots we tested at 2.2 PSI. It is not simply a residential cleaner that happens to look commercial. It has the motors and suction performance needed for repeated cleaning.
I especially like the Premier for outdoor apartment, hotel, and community pools surrounded by trees. A cartridge basket fills quickly with large leaves. The oversized leaf bag gives the Premier far more debris capacity for that specific job.
Pros
- Dual commercial-grade motors
- Strong 2.2 PSI result in our testing
- Cleans the floor, walls, and waterline
- NanoFilters for fine debris
- Oversized leaf bag for heavy leaf loads
- Simple onboard Weekly Timer
- Three-year warranty
- Excellent feature-to-price value
Cons
- No smartphone app
- Bottom-loading filtration is not as convenient as Sigma's top-loading basket
- Limited to pools up to 50 feet
- More filter options also mean more components to store and manage
Who should buy it? Choose the Premier if your pool is 50 feet or shorter and you want the best filtration flexibility, especially when leaves and larger debris are a major problem.

Dolphin Wave 60 – Best Budget Dedicated Commercial Pool Cleaner
The Dolphin Wave 60 is the least expensive entry point into the dedicated Wave commercial lineup.
It is rated for pools up to 50 feet and includes a 56-foot cable, 4,500 GPH filtration, top-loading fine and ultra-fine filters, a caddy, and floor, wall, and waterline coverage. However, it has no Weekly Timer, no smartphone app, and only a two-year warranty.
That places the Wave 60 in a strange position.
It has the same 50-foot pool rating and listed filtration rate as the Premier and Sigma, but it gives up scheduling, app control, the Premier's Multi-Media system, and one year of warranty coverage.
The Wave 60 is not a bad commercial pool vacuum. It is simple, sturdy, and easy to operate. But I would not buy it merely because it carries the Wave name.
Pros
- Entry-level dedicated Wave commercial model
- Cleans the floor, walls, and waterline
- Top-loading filter system
- Fine and ultra-fine filters
- Anti-tangle swivel
- Caddy included
- Simple controls
Cons
- No Weekly Timer
- No app control
- Two-year warranty
- Same maximum pool length as Premier and Sigma
- Same listed 4,500 GPH flow as Premier and Sigma
- Less filtration flexibility than Premier
Who should buy it? Choose the Wave 60 if you specifically want a simple, dedicated commercial-series robot for a pool up to 50 feet. Otherwise, I would choose the Premier or Sigma.

Dolphin Wave 80 – Best for Commercial Pools Over 50 to 65 Feet
The Dolphin Wave 80 is where the Wave lineup begins to make real sense.
It is rated for pools up to 65 feet and has an 80-foot cable. It cleans the floor, walls, and waterline and includes active scrubbing, top-loading fine and ultra-fine filters, a remote control, caddy, and 4,500 GPH filtration. Its warranty is two years, and it does not include a Weekly Timer or smartphone app.
The longer cable is the reason to buy it.
If your pool is 55, 60, or 65 feet long, the Premier and Sigma are no longer the correct size. The Wave 80 gives the robot enough cable and operating range to clean a longer hotel, school, apartment, or community pool properly.
But if your pool is 50 feet or shorter, the Wave 80 is much harder to justify. The Premier and Sigma provide commercial-grade motors, better automation, longer warranties, and either more filtration options or app control.
Pros
- Rated for pools up to 65 feet
- 80-foot anti-tangle cable
- Cleans the floor, walls, and waterline
- Active scrubbing
- Top-loading filtration
- Fine and ultra-fine filters
- Remote control and caddy included
Cons
- No Weekly Timer
- No smartphone app
- Two-year warranty
- Same listed 4,500 GPH flow as smaller ProLine models
- Not the best value for pools under 50 feet
Who should buy it? Choose the Wave 80 when your pool is too long for the Premier or Sigma but does not require the size or cost of the Wave 100.

Dolphin Wave 90i – Best Newcomer and Connected 65-Foot Pick
The Dolphin Wave 90i is the most connected robot in Dolphin's commercial Wave lineup.
It is rated for pools up to 65 feet, has a 75-foot cable, and includes MyDolphin Plus app control, a Weekly Timer, automation features, selectable cleaning cycles, a remote, top-loading multi-layer filtration, and 4,500 GPH suction.
That sounds like it should make the Wave 90i the obvious upgrade over the Wave 80, but there is one major catch:
The Wave 90i does not clean the waterline.
It cleans the floor and walls, while the Wave 80 cleans the floor, walls, and waterline. That is a meaningful omission in a heavily used commercial pool where sunscreen, body oils, and residue build up around the surface.
This makes the Wave 90i a very specific recommendation. It is for someone with a pool over 50 feet who genuinely values app control and automatic scheduling and is comfortable brushing the waterline separately.
Pros
- MyDolphin Plus smartphone app
- Programmable Weekly Timer
- Automation mode
- Rated for pools up to 65 feet
- Multiple cleaning-cycle choices
- Top-loading multi-layer filtration
- Remote and caddy included
- Side brushes help around edges and corners
Cons
- Does not clean the waterline
- Two-year warranty
- More expensive and complicated than the Wave 80
- Same listed 4,500 GPH suction
- Sigma is the better connected choice for pools up to 50 feet
Who should buy it? Choose the Wave 90i if your pool is over 50 feet, you want app-connected scheduling, and waterline cleaning is not a priority. For pools up to 50 feet, buy the Sigma instead.

Dolphin W20 – Best for Shallow Pools, Fountains, and Reflection Pools
The Dolphin W20 is not designed to be an ordinary swimming-pool cleaner. It is a specialty commercial pool robot built for shallow water.
It can operate in water as shallow as eight inches and is designed for fountains, wading pools, and reflection pools. It is rated for areas up to 65 feet long and includes an 80-foot cable, remote control, caddy, filter bag, 4,500 GPH filtration, and a three-year warranty. It cleans the floor only.
That shallow-water capability is what makes the W20 special. A normal robotic pool cleaner may not have enough water above it to remain stable, navigate, or operate correctly in a fountain or shallow children's pool.
Do not buy the W20 for a normal inground pool expecting full coverage. It does not climb walls or clean the waterline.
Pros
- Operates in water as shallow as eight inches
- Excellent for fountains and reflection pools
- Rated for areas up to 65 feet
- Remote control included
- 80-foot anti-tangle cable
- Three-year warranty
- Caddy included
Cons
- Floor-only cleaning
- No wall climbing
- No waterline cleaning
- No Weekly Timer
- No smartphone app
- Bottom-loading filter bag
Who should buy it? Choose the W20 for fountains, wading pools, therapy pools, reflection pools, or other shallow commercial installations.
Dolphin Wave 100 – Best for Commercial Pools Up to 88 Feet
The Dolphin Wave 100 is the next meaningful size step after the Wave 80.
It is rated for commercial pools up to 88 feet and includes a 100-foot cable, gyroscopic navigation, 4,500 GPH filtration, a high-capacity filter bag, remote control, caddy, and complete floor, wall, and waterline coverage. It has a two-year warranty and does not include a Weekly Timer or mobile app.
This is the model I would consider for a longer apartment, school, fitness-center, hotel, or community pool that exceeds the Wave 80's 65-foot rating.
The Wave 100 does not give you more listed filtration flow than the Wave 80, Premier, or Sigma. Its value comes from the 100-foot cable, larger operating range, commercial navigation system, and capacity to cover a much longer pool.
Pros
- Rated for pools up to 88 feet
- 100-foot cable
- Cleans the floor, walls, and waterline
- Gyroscopic navigation
- High-capacity debris bag
- Remote control and caddy
- Suitable for medium-sized commercial pools
Cons
- No Weekly Timer
- No smartphone app
- Two-year warranty
- Bottom-loading filter bag
- Same 4,500 GPH rating as several smaller robots
- Significant jump in size and cost from the Wave 80
Who should buy it? Choose the Wave 100 for a commercial pool longer than 65 feet but no longer than approximately 88 feet.
Dolphin Wave 120 – Best Full-Coverage Cleaner for Pools Up to 138 Feet
The Wave 120 is where you move into truly large commercial-pool territory.
It is rated for pools up to 138 feet and includes a 148-foot cable, 9,000 GPH filtration, four brushes, a high-capacity filter bag, remote control, caddy, and complete floor, wall, and waterline cleaning. It has a two-year warranty and does not include a Weekly Timer or smartphone app.
The jump to 9,000 gallons per hour is important. That is twice the listed filtration rate of the Wave 100, Wave 80, Wave 90i, Premier, and Sigma.
The Wave 120 is built for large resort pools, community pools, school facilities, and other pools that are simply beyond the reach of smaller robots. It is also substantially heavier than the smaller models, so the included caddy is not optional in real-world use.
Pros
- Rated for pools up to 138 feet
- 148-foot cable
- 9,000 GPH filtration
- Cleans the floor, walls, and waterline
- Four-brush cleaning system
- Remote control included
- Large-capacity filtration
- Caddy included
Cons
- Heavy machine
- No Weekly Timer
- No smartphone app
- Two-year warranty
- Filter bag is less convenient than a top-loading basket
- Not long enough for a full 50-meter pool
Who should buy it? Choose the Wave 120 for a large commercial pool between approximately 89 and 138 feet when full wall and waterline coverage matters.
Dolphin Wave 140 – Heavy-Duty Floor Cleaner for High-Traffic Pools
Despite its higher model number, the Wave 140 is rated for a shorter pool than the Wave 120.
The Wave 140 is a heavy-duty, floor-only cleaner rated for pools up to 127 feet. It has a 140-foot cable, 9,000 GPH suction, six brushes, top-loading filtration, remote control, caddy, and a three-year warranty. It does not climb walls, clean the waterline, or include an anti-tangle swivel.
This is a specialized machine for large, high-traffic facilities where floor scrubbing and debris removal matter more than complete surface coverage.
For most pools, I prefer the Wave 120 because it reaches farther and cleans the walls and waterline. The Wave 140 makes sense when you specifically want a top-loading, heavy-duty floor machine and your staff already handles the walls manually.
Pros
- 9,000 GPH filtration
- Six-brush cleaning system
- Top-loading filter
- Three-year warranty
- Built for repeated floor cleaning
- Remote control and caddy
Cons
- Floor only
- No wall or waterline cleaning
- No anti-tangle swivel
- Heavy
- Rated for a shorter pool than the Wave 120
- No Weekly Timer or app
Who should buy it? Choose the Wave 140 when heavy-duty, top-loading floor cleaning matters more than wall coverage in a facility up to 127 feet long.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best commercial pool cleaner?
The Dolphin Sigma is the best overall commercial-grade pool cleaner for pools up to 50 feet. It combines commercial-grade motors, strong suction, top-loading filtration, waterline cleaning, a Weekly Timer, app control, and a three-year warranty.
The Premier is the better value if you do not need an app or if your pool collects large amounts of leaves. For pools over 50 feet, choose a Wave model based primarily on pool length.
Can I use the Dolphin Premier or Sigma in a commercial pool?
Yes. Both use commercial-grade ProLine motor systems and are mechanically capable of cleaning many smaller commercial pools.
I would use them in apartment, HOA, hotel, gym, school, and smaller community pools up to 50 feet. They are often more convenient than similarly sized Wave models because they include Weekly Timers, three-year warranties, and either app control or more filtration options.
Because both are residential-branded models, confirm commercial-use warranty eligibility with the seller before buying one for a business.
Is a Dolphin Wave cleaner more powerful than the Premier or Sigma?
Not necessarily.
The Premier, Sigma, Wave 60, Wave 80, Wave 90i, and Wave 100 are all listed at approximately 4,500 gallons per hour. The Wave 120 and larger heavy-duty machines increase that rating to 9,000 GPH or more.
With the smaller Wave cleaners, you are generally buying a longer cable and larger pool rating—not automatically more suction.
How do I choose the correct commercial pool robot size?
Measure the pool's longest dimension.
Use a cleaner's stated maximum pool length rather than assuming its cable length equals the pool size. The cable also needs enough slack to reach the deep end, climb walls, turn, and travel back across the pool.
For an irregularly shaped pool, measure the longest point-to-point distance and leave yourself additional margin.
Do Dolphin Wave model numbers equal the maximum pool length?
No.
The Wave 80 is rated for pools up to 65 feet. The Wave 100 reaches 88 feet. The Wave 120 reaches 138 feet, while the higher-numbered Wave 140 is actually rated for 127 feet.
Always read the actual maximum pool-length specification.
Should a commercial pool robot clean the waterline?
For most swimming pools, yes.
The waterline collects sunscreen, body oils, biofilm, and residue. A robot that cleans the waterline reduces the amount of manual tile brushing your staff must perform.
The Premier, Sigma, Wave 60, Wave 80, Wave 100, and Wave 120 clean the waterline. The Wave 90i cleans the floor and walls but not the waterline. The W20 and Wave 140 clean the floor only.
How often should a commercial pool robot run?
That depends on swimmer traffic and debris load, but many commercial pools benefit from daily cleaning or cleaning several times per week.
A busy hotel, apartment, or community pool may need the robot every night. A lightly used therapy pool may need it less often. Regardless of schedule, empty and rinse the filters after each heavily loaded cycle so restricted filters do not reduce suction.
Does a commercial pool robot replace the main pool filter?
No.
A robotic commercial pool cleaner scrubs surfaces and collects settled debris. It does not replace the circulation pump, main pool filter, sanitizer, chemical testing, required turnover, or routine pool maintenance.
Think of the robot as a highly effective additional cleaning system—not the entire pool-maintenance program.
Is a cordless commercial pool cleaner worth buying?
I would not buy one for a serious commercial application.
Corded robots provide continuous power without charging downtime or declining battery capacity. This becomes increasingly important as the pool gets larger and cleaning cycles become longer.
My Final Verdict
For most commercial pools up to 50 feet, do not assume you need a Dolphin Wave just because the pool belongs to a business.
The Dolphin Sigma is my best overall pick. It gives you commercial-grade motors, strong cleaning performance, top-loading filters, waterline cleaning, app control, a Weekly Timer, and a three-year warranty.
The Dolphin Premier is my best value pick. It delivers commercial-grade performance, the strongest pressure result in our testing, a Weekly Timer, a three-year warranty, and the best filtration selection—especially if your pool collects a lot of leaves.
The dedicated Wave commercial pool cleaners begin to win when size demands them.
For a pool over 50 but no longer than 65 feet, buy the Wave 80. Choose the Wave 90i instead only if app scheduling is more important than waterline cleaning.
Move to the Wave 100 for pools up to 88 feet and the Wave 120 for full floor, wall, and waterline coverage in pools up to 138 feet.
For fountains, reflection pools, and water as shallow as eight inches, the W20 is the clear specialty pick.
For heavy-duty, floor-only cleaning in a facility up to 127 feet, choose the Wave 140.
The commercial badge matters far less than people think. Start with the length of your pool, decide whether you need waterline cleaning, and then look at filtration, scheduling, and warranty. For the majority of smaller commercial pools, the Premier and Sigma still give you the strongest overall package.
